New engine starting problems

First of all I am very sorry for not speaking German.
Somebody suggested I would ask my problem on this forum

So I am looking to buy a 2007 Isuzu d-max with the 3.0 liter.

The previous owner installed another engine, but now they engine only starts and stalls right after that.

I was thinking that the car might have some fault codes?

Also I do not know of they are still running the computer from the old engine ore the new replacement. Maybe the problem would lay there?

Can somebody point me in the right direction?

the 07 are old and cheap. I think not worth to start or to continue with such a doubtful project. Too risky !
You may check and scan with a modern OBD scanner, then you have the chance to check the software versions.

Which country do you come from?
Are you an accomplished mechanic?
Do you have good tools?

Are there any warning lights on the amartur board?


The first thing you need to do is get an OBD2 reader that can read Isuzu error codes.

Thank you for the reply!
The car has 180000km (strange that the engine was toast but okay).
The seller is asking €4500.

Thought it might be interesting having a look at it,
I'm from Belgium, I know my way around car's BUT they where/are all oldtimers with no computer so that would be a first.
And also bever worked on a diesel before haha.

I will check for a OBD2 reader!

Little update, the car is still using all of the electronics of the first engine, including the on board computer.

I think no because replacement engines are almost always offered without control units.
Yes, maybe you can borrow an OBD reader.
4500€ is a lot of money for a car without a running engine....
That would be too expensive for me.
